Transforming a Food Retail Business for Sale through Effective Coaching and Training

ree

This client was quite intriguing as I joined the business just as it was winding down. I needed to devise a plan for the client to successfully sell the business, as they had lost their emotional attachment to it. At times, one must make investments in a business devoid of emotional connection. It can be tough to walk away from a business, but doing so knowing you gave it your all is often the only way to maintain dignity.

Client Profile:

A food retailer struggling with team management, staff training, and a very low hygiene rating. The client’s goal was to improve the business enough to sell it, as it was a secondary venture that they couldn’t manage directly.

Challenges:

-      Inefficient team management

-      Untrained staff lacking necessary skills in food safety and hygiene

-      Very low hygiene rating impacting the business’s reputation and value

-      The client did not have time to personally manage the business

Our Approach:

At Saniya Consultancy, we stepped in to provide tailored management support and training to the client's staff, focusing on improving food safety, hygiene, and operational efficiency. We worked with the client to prepare the business for sale by addressing its core operational weaknesses.

Key Strategies:

1.     Team Management Overhaul: We helped the client implement better management practices to ensure the business was run smoothly, even in their absence.

2.     Staff Training: Comprehensive training programs were provided to the team, focusing on food safety, customer service, and operational efficiency.

3.     Food Hygiene Standards: We conducted hygiene training and helped implement best practices, significantly improving the business's hygiene rating.

4.     Business Value Enhancement: By improving the operational standards and achieving a high hygiene rating, the business became more attractive to potential buyers, facilitating a successful sale.

Results:

-      The client’s takeaway gained a Grade 5 hygiene rating, a significant improvement from its previous low rating.

-      The team became more efficient and capable of managing daily operations, allowing the client to step back.

-      The business was successfully sold, meeting the client’s ultimate goal.

Client Testimonial:

"I was unable to manage the day-to-day running of my takeaway and relied on others, but they weren’t running it effectively . As it was a secondary business, I didn’t have the time to handle it myself. I called on Sanyia’s services for management and hygiene training. Thanks to her help, I gained a Grade 5 hygiene rating and was able to sell my business successfully."
